Boyd is recruited by DCI Yolanda Williams to work on a 'test case' for a new intelligence-gathering software tool. The test case - a serial killer who appears to have struck again after a lapse of twenty years.

Boyd finds himself drawn up to Manchester to solve a brutal double murder, armed with his years of experience, and 'software' he's struggling to get to grips with... and a cold-blooded killer who's psychological profile just doesn't add up.
