Synopsis
Friends Davina and Lucie formed an accidental club, one they never thought they would join. After both losing a parent, they gravitated towards each other from a newly discovered shared understanding of grief. What helped them most through this time was a love of food, and sharing memories of eating and cooking with their families; and so The Dead Parents Supper Club was founded.
Over time, their club of two grew into a small community, other friends and acquaintances who had gone through the same experiences. They would feed each other stories and memories over meals that reminded them of their parents, and between dinners they started to cook in a different way individually as well. They could connect with grief by pulling down that heavy pan off the top shelf, chopping the garlic the way they used to, and cobbling together a familiar meal.
The Dead Parents Supper Club is a book about grieving through memories of food. From rotlas at the khichdi prasad, to bagels at Shivas. Interspersed with refreshing artwork, stories from the club piece together a rich and lively story of what it is like to lose a parent or parental figure at a young age.
