Synopsis
In the shadow of the Great War, life is hard in the mining village of Whitton Grange. Louie longs to build a new life but with a sick mother and a large family of pitman brothers and father, the daily burdens fall heavily on her young shoulders and freedom seems impossible.
But then she falls for 'Red' Sam Ritson - boxer and union leader. Strong and fearless, Sam gives her the courage to marry and start a family of her own. But Sam's loyalties are torn and Louie wonders if his first love will always be his battle for his fellow miners against the ruthless mine owner. He has little time for her.
As tensions increase and the General Strike looms, Louie fears for the fate of her village and her unborn child.
Can she hold her little family together or will she lose everything?
